4 Feb 2019

On 4 February 2019, Cancer Research UK is celebrating its fifth year of involvement with World Cancer Day.

It's a day that unites people, communities and entire countries to raise awareness and take action to beat cancer.

Cancer is a global challenge. This campaign brings together over 1,000 organisations – including Cancer Research UK – across 162 countries. It seeks to empower everyone across the world to show support, raise their voice, and ask their governments to do more to save lives.

As part of this, we’ve worked with our partner Tesco to hold a collection in hundreds of stores across the country, and it’s humbling to see the generosity of their colleagues and customers. As well as raising funds for our research, activities like this help to raise awareness of the work that we do. Thank you to everyone who got involved.

Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research UK is the world’s largest independent funder of cancer research. We invest over £500m a year, working collaboratively with the best minds and partners to achieve our ambitions and improve outcomes for everyone. Everywhere.

We have more than 150 international research partners and we’re incredibly proud to have played a role in developing 8 of the world’s top 10 cancer drugs. But we need to do more.

In the UK alone, more than 360,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year – that’s nearly 990 people every day. Our work to save them relies on many thousands of small acts of support. No donation is insignificant. In fact, 9/10 donations to Cancer Research UK are for less than £10.

Working together with Tesco

We’re incredibly proud of our longstanding partnership with Tesco and what we can achieve together. Tesco has supported Race for Life since 2002 and over the years they have raised more than £45m to help in the fight against cancer. We continue to work together on sponsorship, corporate donations and colleague fundraising.

In addition to this fundraising effort, Tesco and CRUK have joined forces with Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation to support customers and colleagues in living healthier lives.
